International Women’s Day preparation Meeting in villages.

In preparation for the International Women’s Day celebration on 15 March, 2009, staff and volunteers have traveled to many villages, with participating women’s self-help groups, to extend personal verbal invitations to many of ODAM’s Self-Help Group women.  Of the 220 villages that are participating in the program we have visited over 70 villages within three geographical blocks in the area surrounding Tiruchuli.  Our reception in the villages has been warm, welcoming and generous.  All of the participating women have agreed to “give the men of the village an opportunity to show that they can protect the home and children for just one day”, and come to the celebration this Sunday.

We are expecting 10,000 people to attend the procession on Sunday which begins at 5pm.  We have more villages to visit so stay tuned for more updates.
